Calgary Quest School

About the School

Calgary Quest School provides specialized educational programming for students aged 6 to 20 with moderate to severe developmental disabilities. Our mission is to create a learning environment where every student is supported, valued, and empowered to reach their full potential.

We operate across two campuses: our Spruce Cliff location, which houses our elementary and junior high programs, and our Sunalta campus, which serves high school students. Both campuses are designed to foster not only academic and life-skill development but also a strong sense of community, belonging, and friendship. Relationships matter deeply at Quest, our students thrive in an environment where they feel safe, accepted, and connected.

With a 1:3 staff-to-student ratio and a multidisciplinary team of teachers, therapists, and support staff, we are committed to creating an individualized, supportive, and caring environment for every student.

Our programs include a specialized and modified Alberta curriculum, music therapy, life skills development, self-regulation support and so much more. We use the latest in technology aids, like SMART interactive tools, to help students with communication challenges reach their full potential. Our adapted classrooms ensure that every student receives a learning experience designed specifically for their needs.

With a focus on developing daily living skills, social skills, communication abilities, and emotional regulation, we aim to empower each child to thrive both inside and outside of the classroom.

Classrooms at Calgary Quest are intentionally small, ensuring a low student-to-teacher ratio. Each class is led by a certified teacher and supported by experienced instructional assistants who work closely with our multidisciplinary therapy team, including speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, music therapists, and behaviour strategists. This collaborative approach allows us to meet each student’s unique learning and developmental needs with compassion and expertise.

Rather than grouping by age alone, students are placed in classrooms based on their individual abilities and support needs. This allows us to create the most effective learning environment for each student. Across all classrooms, regardless of age or grade, our programming focuses on key learning domains.

These domains are embedded into daily learning, and programming is thoughtfully tailored to suit the unique needs and goals of each student. As students progress through our high school program, they continue building these core skills while participating in additional transition and independence-building activities. Upon completion, students have the opportunity to graduate with a Certificate of Completion, recognizing their individual growth and achievements during their time at Quest.

Sunalta Campus

Home to our Highschool and Quest Resources’ young adults program, the Sunalta campus is our first innovative learning hub for high school students and young adults with moderate to severe disabilities.

At our Sunalta Campus, Calgary Quest School’s high school students, aged 14 and up, and Calgary Quest Resources: Center for Opportunity’s young adult program participants (ages 18-28) are all under one roof, allowing us to continue to advance them in an environment that fosters independence, life skills, and diverse experiences.

The campus atmosphere provides students and participants with the traditional Highschool and post- secondary experience.

Calgary Quest School Sunalta

Calgary Quest School accepts students with a wide range of diagnoses and complex learning needs. All students must qualify for Moderate to Severe Disability funding through Alberta Education.

Due to high interest in our programming, we receive many applications each year. Each student is assessed on a case-by-case basis to determine if we are the right fit, based on their specific support needs and our current capacity to meet those needs. This thoughtful intake process ensures that every student we accept has the opportunity to succeed in an environment tailored to them.
